I was in Timor Leste for a few days to look at possibilities of non-profit based business opportunities that can help to complement SJSM's mission efforts on the ground. Here are some of my preliminary observations:
1) Francis and Grace, through God's mercy, have been very fruitful and many of Manatuto's young have been positively impacted through their efforts in the teaching of English and Computer skills for the last 3 years. We met many polite young people, all very eager to learn. Some of them have to walk more than 6 km to attend class.
2) We visited a salt production village where traditional (and primitive) methods of pure sea salt are produced. The villagers are poor and have little options. We plan to explore the possibility of properly packaging and marketing this product for them. And the profits will be channeled back to help them improve their productivity. We welcome suggestions from cell member.Initial thoughts include retailing through health food outlets, to salt spas, etc. We plan to sent a sample for lab testing to determine its quality and purity.
3) We also visited a highland village harvested wild honey from trees of 30m height. Combined with the wild sea coconut from another village, they make a delicious desert. We hope that there is a market for this desert.
4) We saw some cashew trees but there is no production facility.
5) We need ideas from Jelita cell to help our mission ground staff to bring some of God's glory to light up their lives, as much as He had helped our lives.
6) I plan to make some wild honey-sea coconut desert for our next cell meeting. Cheers and God bless.

Thanks to CL for the feedback and update. I look forward to tasting the pure honey plus organic wild sea coconut. Add a bit of home-made ice-cream, and this would certainly make it a 5-star desert.
