Resist Enticement: Proverbs 1:8-33
Stanley Tay, 8/8/10
Prov 1 presents two competing views:
Wisdom's worldview vs folly's lure viz. fast money, adulteries, casual sex.
1.Take on the Work of Teacher-Parent (Pr 1:8-9)
Family is where the next generation learns to live.
Tomorrow's world will be shaped by what we teach our children today.
Parents' role:
a)Teach (Deu 6:4-9)
Parents should be more concern that their children excel in knowing
and obeying God than in achievements in music, sports, social activities.
b)Model biblical values and wise living.
Like pebbles thrown into a pond, a man's character ripples into the
lives of others, especially those close to him.
2.Follow the Way of Folly (Pr1:10-19)
Don't be enticed by:
a)Exciting but bad company, peer pressure - "let us..." (Pr 1:10,15)
Bad company corrupts good character (1Cor 15:33)
b)Easy but dirty money (Pr1:13,14) - get rich schemes, ill-gotten gain,
kick-backs, bribing, falsifying accounts, embezzlement, fraudulent
investments.
"Sinners love wealth and use people
Saints love people and use wealth".
3.Watch for the Warnings of Wisdom (Pr1:20-33)
The only way to drown the voice of folly is to listen to the voice of Wisdom.
(Pr 1:24-27, 32-33)
Waywardness of the simple will kill them
Complacency of fools will destroy them
Sin does not pay, they're self-defeating and self-destructive.
Gal 6:7 - A man reaps what he sows.
